FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is The RISE?

The RISE is an event production company that produces the most iconic, truly unique family-friendly fall events featuring thousands of hand-carved illuminated jack o’lanterns creatively arranged along a scenic walking path and set to a musical score designed to bring out the Halloween spirit in visitors of all ages!

Lighting effects will be present at this event. Please plan accordingly if you suffer from any light stimulation effects that could be affected by strobe, colored, or other moving patterned light.

I'm excited about The RISE. When is it?

RISE events will be held on various evenings at several locations throughout the month of October.  Advanced tickets are required and are sold on a first-come first-served basis. Please click “Buy Tickets” for dates, times, and locations. We sell out fast so order your tickets now before they’re gone!

Is The RISE scary?

The RISE is more of an art show, not a haunted event. The RISE is a bunch of really cool hand-carved illuminated jack o'lanterns with some really great music behind them! We do have some music that we consider "eerie" but not "scary". It is Halloween, you know! We think it's appropriate for children of all ages but only you can know if it's suitable for your child.

This sounds cool, but is anyone actually buying tickets?

Absolutely!  Each year, most dates and times sell out quickly.

What happens if it rains?

All RISE events are rain or shine. In cases of severe weather, we reserve the right to cancel the event and re-issue you a ticket for a different day and time. For more information about our weather policy, click here.

Can my 2 year old come for free?

Yes! All kids 2 years and under come free! Anyone 3 and older needs a Child (3-17) or Adult (18+) ticket. Please note that while kids 2 and under are free for entry, they still require a ticket if you purchase your tickets through our website. Please select the free child 2 and under option for all children 2 and under in your party. Children 2 and under will be admitted without a ticket if you purchased your tickets through Groupon.

Is this an indoor or outdoor event?

The RISE at New Jersey Meadowlands will be held indoors. The RISE at Old Westbury Gardens and Night of 1,000 Jack O’Lanterns at Yorktown Grange and Governors Island are outdoor events so be sure to dress appropriately for weather conditions!

How long does it take to experience The RISE?

The RISE is a self guided tour and guests move at their own pace however most people spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes on the trail.

How long does it take to carve your Jack O'Lanterns?

Some take a few minutes, others take up to 20 hours!

How do you keep all of the pumpkins from rotting all month long?

We don't! Each week we have to replace the deceased jack o'lanterns with fresh ones. That's a lot of re-carving!

Are all of your Jack O'Lanterns real pumpkins?

Each of our events this year feature 1,000+ hand-carved REAL pumpkins! This year, we have over 200 artists carving more than 30,000 real pumpkins in total which will be on display across six world-class destinations around the country.

What else is there to do at The RISE?

We'll have a small gift shop and refreshments!

Can I take pictures?

Photography is permitted however, for the safety of our guests, flash photography, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks are prohibited.

Are wheelchairs allowed?

Wheelchairs are permitted, though we do not supply them on-site. If you require a wheelchair, please make sure to bring your own as we will not be able to provide one for use once you arrive.

Can I bring my pet?

Only guide dogs for the blind and service animals who have been specifically trained to perform a task for those with disabilities will be permitted in accordance with ADA requirements. Service dogs in training, emotional support animals, comfort animals, and/or therapy animals are not permitted.

I purchased tickets for Night of 1,000 Jack O'Lanterns on Governors Island. What ferry should I take?

Your ticket time is the time your ferry leaves the Battery Maritime Building for Governors Island. Please arrive no earlier than 5-10 minutes prior to your departure time because waiting room space is extremely limited inside the Battery Maritime Building.

We cannot guarantee that any tickets will become available but, if we are able to accommodate your request, we will send you an email with a link to purchase your additional tickets from the wait list.

Do I need to buy my tickets ahead of time?

You can also sign up for a promocode to get discounted tickets by visiting therise.org/getCodes.
